Crop images to a perfect square or circle, free and private
Square Crop is a free online image cropper for making square and circular photos. Drop in one picture or a whole folder, position the crop box, and save. Everything happens in your browser: your photos are never uploaded, and there is no account, watermark or limit.
How to crop an image to a square
- Add your photos. Drag images onto the page, or click the upload area to choose them. Add as many as you like.
- Choose square or circle. Use the shape buttons on the left of the editor. The crop box always keeps a 1:1 ratio.
- Adjust the crop. Drag the box to reposition it, pull a corner to resize it, and zoom in for precise framing.
- Save. The cropped image downloads straight away and the next photo in your queue opens automatically.
Features
Batch cropping
Load dozens of photos at once and work through them one after another. A queue along the top shows what is coming next, and you can skip, remove or jump to any image.
Square and circle crops
Square crops keep your original file type. Circle crops are saved as PNG with a transparent background, ready to use as a profile picture or avatar.
Full resolution
Crops are taken from the original image, not a scaled-down preview, so you keep every pixel of detail inside the crop box. The editor shows the exact output size as you adjust it.
Private by design
Square Crop uses your browser's built-in image tools to do the work on your device. Your photos are never sent to a server, which also makes it fast, even for large files.
What people use it for

- Team headshots for a website or company directory
- Square thumbnails for blogs, galleries and social posts
Frequently asked questions
Is Square Crop free?
Yes. Square Crop is free to use with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you crop.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Your images are opened and cropped by your own browser. They are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else. See the privacy policy for details.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Square Crop crops from the original full-resolution image, so the output has the same detail as the area you selected. PNG files stay lossless. JPEG and WebP files are re-saved at high quality (92%).
What format are circle crops saved in?
Circle crops are always saved as PNG so the corners outside the circle are transparent. Square crops keep the original format for JPEG, PNG and WebP images. Other formats are saved as PNG.
Can I crop several images at once?
Yes. Drop or select as many images as you like and they are added to a queue. Adjust the crop for each one, then save or skip to move to the next.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Square Crop works in modern mobile browsers. Tap the upload area to choose photos, drag the crop box with your finger, then save.
